Communication and collaboration are an important part of any learning experience. In this context, collaborative software is any application that you can use to communicate through voice, video and text-based discussion. It also includes software that allows you to collaborate with others on documents via the Internet. NIU eLearning Services currently recommends and supports three core applications.

Adobe Connect is a web-based communication system that allows users to meet, share, and collaborate at a distance from their desktops. One of the key advantages of this system is that it demands very little of end-users: only a standard web browser and one or more free Adobe plug-ins are required to participate in Adobe Connect meetings.
Chat is a form of synchronous communication that takes place between one or more people on the Internet through text and symbols. eLearning can provide you with a web-based chat tool to use on your website.
NIU's learning management system is Blackboard. It is usually used to supplement traditional courses and to provide online course materials and collaboration. It can also be used for communities of learners, such as HR training. NIU eLearning Services has a Blackboard Course for faculty to learn more about our services, access resources and see samples of our work.
