Challenge.
Health care professionals are faced with legal and ethical challenges on a daily basis. As part of NIU’s Legal and Ethical Issues for Health and Human Sciences course (HHS 410), students need to be able to appreciate this fact and when confronted with these type of situations, be able to utilize resources to make appropriate decisions.
Solution.
A Flash-based simulation was developed that gives students the opportunity to take on the role of eight different health care professionals. For each health care professional role, the student is presented with an ethical dilemma and using four given resources, must make a decision. Student decisions are recorded in an online journal that upon completion is emailed to the professor.
