Challenge.
The Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale uses roman numerals to rate earthquake intensity. As part of the Foundations in Homeland Security course, students needed to be able to appreciate the difference between earthquakes rated at different intensities on the scale.
Solution.
A Flash-based simulation was developed where students can select a numeral on the Mercalli Intensity Scale and witness the ramifications of an earthquake with that intensity on a city street.
